Let's enjoy the upcoming new snow! We'll choose an easy trail to snowshoe in the Boulder or Nederland area, aiming for about 3 hours of snowshoeing. We'll start by meeting at the Boulder Justice Center parking lot and ensure that everyone has the correct gear (e.g. snowshoes, poles, gloves) before we depart for the trailhead. Those who wish to carpool can easily do so at that time. The trail will be chosen a day or two before our event so that we have the best conditions. The general plan is to snowshoe to a destination/viewpoint while enjoying conversation with the other members. It's a good idea to bring lunch or snacks as well as a thermos/water bottle.
In the Nederland area, some possible trails include Lost Lake and Caribou Ranch. There are too many options if there's enough snow for snowshoeing in the Boulder area. Just to give you an idea we are thinking about Shanahan Ridge with fabulous views of the Flatirons, Eldorado Springs and the historic ruined Crags Hotel, and the Flatirons Vista area. These are all less than 4 miles with an elevation gain less than 1000 feet.
There are a few places that rent snowshoes including REI, Crystal ski shop, and Christy Sports. If you're going to rent, we recommend you pick up the snowshoes and poles the evening before.
